Home is where we belong. No matter how ugly our houses are, we can't stop going back to them. The House on Mango Street is one of the best-selling books for 10th graders. This book is based mainly on four main topics. One of the topics of this book is CONFLICT which is the main root of the book. The root of the book is DUALITY, which is the Esperanza used to evoke opposing subjects as one. The third root of the book House on Mango Street is the SYMBOLISM that Esperanza associates of concrete objects or people with her main ideas. The last, but not least, root used by Esperanza was UNIVERSAL THEME. Esperanza used this root to show how the people of Mango Street lived and their lifestyles. THESISThe thesis of The House on Mango Street is generally based on Esperanza's struggles that she went through. to integrate. These struggles involve her family's cultural heritage, neighborhood, and economic status. CONFLICTS Throughout the house on Mango Street, Esperanza had to experience many conflicts. In chapter 3 (Boys and Girls), she experiences the conflict of a kind of loneliness. She is not happy with her younger sister's company. In this chapter, Esperanza expresses her feeling of dissatisfaction by saying, “Nanny is too young to be my friend. She's just my sister and it wasn't my fault. In chapter 4, (My Name) Esperanza doesn't like her name; she doesn't like it because of who she inherited it from. Esperanza inherited her name from her great-grandmother who was raped. Esperanza showed how much she hated her name by saying, "I would like to baptize myself with a new name."
