Organization Chart AnalysisOrganizations in today's world must adapt and overcome many obstacles that are both predictable and unpredictable. Max Weber describes the five basic principles of bureaucracy which are: division of labor, hierarchy of authority, written rules and regulations, principle of impersonality, and technical qualifications. These basic principles were designed to maximize productivity and assert authority over subordinates in the labor market. (Weber, 1968) Today, the fundamental principles of Weber's bureaucratic conception are still visible in almost all organizations. The only variable is the extent to which they are enforced. Organizations can be configured in different ways. Their overall classifications can be summarized by the characteristics of complexity within the system, the level of formalization and the centralization of decision-making power. The structure of every organization is influenced by many factors. These factors include: the goods and services provided, the overall individuality of the personnel providing the service and manufacturing the products. The overall beliefs and values of the individuals who perform the services provided, the technology used to help deliver the services and assist in the production of products, and the needs, wants, and generalized characteristics of the population of consumers who need or require the product or service. (Yoder-Wise, 2007, p. 145) The organization will have different operational priorities depending on its ownership. The main goal of most businesses is to make money. The private institution strives to make money for its shareholders, while a non-profit institution reinvests all of its income into the organization...... middle of paper ..... . (McGuire, 1999, p. 9) I believe that Capital Health is on the path to success. They modernized their organizational chart, causing a more decentralized environment. This new atmosphere promotes the accountability of its nursing staff. This sense of ownership over their practice allows for growth not only for the individual nurse, but for the profession as a whole. This positive and proactive change in organizational structure will enable the hospital to experience continued growth and development powered from within..
