  • Essay / A New Dimension for News Reporting: Internet - 668

As technology continues to develop, online news reporting is becoming more and more popular thanks to the Internet. Before the advent of the Internet, people had to rely on traditional media tools like radio or television. However, today people do not need to wait for the news hour or the newspapers that will be published the next day. The Internet is also a very useful tool for journalists. In their “The Online Journalism Handbook”, Paul Bradshaw and Liisa Rohumaa (2011) express their opinions on this issue; “The Internet has given journalists the means to publish at the press of a button so that articles can (also at the press of a button) be read globally and in real time” (p. 16). In addition to these monthly salaries paid for the Internet, they also claim that some people cannot afford to pay these fees. These opinions are not always the case. Due to technological developments, the Internet is becoming more common and cheaper day by day. According to statistics provided by Internet World Stats, the rate of global population with access to the Internet increased by almost 40% between 1995 and 2014 (2014). In fact, people pay to use many news reporting tools. Additionally, thanks to Wi-Fi (Free Wireless), most people can use the Internet without any charges. For example, students or teachers can connect to the school's wireless Internet connection to do research or every shopping center provides its consumers with Wi-Fi...... middle of paper.. .... the digital age (1st ed.)
