  • Essay / Reflection on education - 1005

Education provides us with knowledge. According to the Oxford Dictionary (2014) “..[Education is] the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction.” I believe that education is not just about textbooks but also about providing each individual with meaningful and quality education and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in life. Teaching is not only a job, but also a lifestyle, we must provide our students with authentic learning and growth academically, ethically and physically. Education should be a unique experience for every student. Students should have the right to a quality education and the ability to learn, regardless of race, gender, or ability. Each child's abilities and interests differ, and as teachers we must differentiate teaching (Marsh, 2010, p. 255), viewing each student as an individual to help them discover their inner passions and to grow. Understanding Piaget's educational theory allows teachers to provide learning experiences tailored to each student's respective abilities (Marsh, 2010, p. 43). I believe it is important to challenge students and watch them grow to reach their full potential. We must not only support students academically, but also provide them with guidance to help others build a better society. I strive to teach students at various levels and see them develop together as a group and as individuals. Jean Jacques states: “We are born weak, we need strength, we are born totally helpless, we need help, we are born stupid, we need judgment, everything that we do not have at birth and of which we need when we are. Growth is given to us through education” (Cullen, 2007 p. 44). Growing up as the first generation of my family in Australia, a child who grew up between two...... middle of paper ...... and achieved positive outcomes. I believe the goal of education should be to prepare children for life, building each child's potential so that they can connect and contribute their ideas and skills to society. As teachers, we must improve the lives of our students despite their background or learning abilities. Providing meaningful and authentic education to our students and enabling our students to engage and be motivated in their own learning. Education not only equips students with knowledge but also provides the skills needed to pursue a successful and meaningful career and future. Finally, we must support our students to reach their full potential and encourage our students to develop their abilities. ..” - (Frankle Victor, 1972)
