Biography Vincent was an influential post-impressionist painter born in 1853 in the Netherlands. With the association of Théo van Gogh, Vincent met renowned impressionist painters such as Émile Henri Bernard and Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin. Impressionism served as a platform for Vincent to develop his own style. He explored colors, a stark contrast to his usual dark and brooding style. The influence of Japonism charmed Vincent and led him to reside in Arles where he began to paint landscapes. Subsequently, Vincent voluntarily enrolled in the Saint-Rémy sanatorium where his works reflect the strong colors and lights of the countryside around him. His manic depression and epileptic condition led him to commit suicide on July 27, 1890.
