Therefore, teaching literary texts in EFL classrooms is a difficult task. The difficulties encountered in this case may be due to various reasons. For example, the iconic use of language in literary works differs from that of conventional standard language. In literature, lexicon and grammar are manipulated to have specific figurative characteristics and create particular effects. The linguistic limitations and lack of analytical and critical thinking skills of the EFL student, who are not equipped to overcome the complexity of understanding a text, make literature a controversial issue to address. Another reason is that students who read literature find it difficult to grasp the meanings of the text that are totally different from the readers' social context. Therefore, literature should be given more attention because it can be used to broaden EFL learners' understanding of other cultures. promote learners' linguistic knowledge and generate an opportunity for personal expression. Conducting an empirical investigation into the teaching of literature can be informative in this regard and should take into account the choice of literary texts, the EFL learners and their cultural context, as well as the teacher.
