  • Essay / Paschal Mystery, Jesus of Nazareth - 1081

The Paschal Mystery is a key element of our Catholic faith. As Catholics, we believe that God came down from heaven and became one of us. Jesus is that fulfillment and came down to save us. The Paschal Mystery are the events that made us know that Jesus is the true Messiah. Jesus we judged by his peers and were crucified. He died on the cross to give us salvation, which he did. He then resurrected after three days, which is the complete basis of our faith. The Paschal Mystery includes the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, but also includes the ascension of Jesus into heaven and the descent of the Holy Spirit. The last two are not depicted in the film but form the basis of the modern church. The film Jesus of Nazareth describes the first three well, but leaves aside the last two, even if Jesus is very present there. The film captured the true religious message but also showed it in a secular way that everyone can understand. The Paschal Mystery begins with the Passion of Jesus. We can say that the Passion began when Jesus entered Jerusalem, which was glorious. The Sadducees and Pharisees did not like this. Later, Jesus destroyed the Temple Square. These two things are what pushed the ancients over the edge with Jesus. While in Jerusalem, Jesus performed many miracles that led the elders to question him. At Passover, Jesus shared supper with his apostles. Here he says that someone (Judas Iscariot) had betrayed him, but without naming Judas. He also began the basis of the Eucharist here by breaking the bread and sharing the wine saying it was his body and blood. Then they went to the Garden of Gethsemane. Here they prayed and Jesus was in great fear of what was going to happen. Judas went out... middle of paper ... Actions arriving at this point were prophesied by prophets like Isaiah. Resurrection is the major part of our religion and it is what differentiates us from other religions. We believe that the fact that Jesus was both human and God is the dual nature of Jesus. The film Jesus of Nazareth showed the paschal mystery in a secular and spiritual way that everyone could understand. He delved into almost every subject of the Gospels and history with figures like Pontius Pilate and Caiaphas. The Paschal Mystery is very important for the Catholic religion because it is what differentiates us from other religions, particularly Judaism. The fact that God joined us in human form, in the Incarnation, is astonishing and shows the character of God, that he loves and forgives. Although Jesus' death was horrible, it gave us our salvation and saved us from sin..
