Essay / Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises - 774
Lady Brett Ashley was a very important character in the book The Sun Also Rises. She had everything, she was pretty and four guys were ogling her. Four guys!!!! She was independent, she could do what she wanted. However, she definitely wasn't likable nor would she be a good role model for anyone, because yes, she treats her male friends cruelly. Let's start with her relationships with the guys. Basically, she can get what she wants, they will do anything for her, because they find her so attractive. Even if they want something in return, she will happily give it to them, she has everything. However, that's all she does, she goes from guy to guy like she doesn't care. Which is not the case. Basically she's everyone's romantic interest, everyone is in love with her. The difference is how she feels about you. Because she has such an effect on men, she also has another ability. She can tear their relationships apart and turn them against each other simply by sleeping with them. Now we'll look at Brett's take on things. She is fully aware of what she is doing, and yet she continues to do it anyway. She wanders from guy to guy, coming and going. She can't stay with anyone, but she claims she can't be alone. She uses men to escape her attractions to other men. Mainly her lost love due to the war and her feelings towards Jake even though he can't give her what she wants. Men may care about her, but she doesn't. His personality is exactly what it appears to be, as the evidence above shows. She's a femme fatale. She is a destructive force for men. She realizes it. She left her relationship with Pedro even though she loved him because she knew she wasn't good at... middle of paper... pushing him away. So now I'm going to try to summarize Brett Ashley. She is a ridiculously beautiful, rich, and incredibly attractive woman. In fact, she is so irresistible that she poses a danger to the men around her. She goes back and forth, having relationships with all four of her love interests. She tears their friendships apart as they become jealous of each other over their relationship with Brett. She is independent and does not take orders from anyone. Even though she has a new boyfriend every other day, she feels lonely and can't stand being alone. She rarely considers the feelings of anyone other than herself, she really has no sympathy. She lost her true love during the war and is now only really in love with Jake, but a war injury stopped him from giving her what she wants, so she gets it from everyone. He's not someone I would admire, but I admire his independence.
