Essay / Is there objectivity in journalism and public...
First of all, I would like to review the work of a journalist, I strongly believe that the main skill that a journalist should have is the ability to get news or information and give to the people without changing them. By being honest, telling the truth and having reliable sources, a journalist can gain respect and esteem. To be a good professional, a journalist must work on several levels. It is very important to do research, take photos or videos and be sure of the authenticity of the story. Then, the story must be written objectively before being published in newspapers, magazines, websites, radio or television. People must be properly informed. If the information or facts are presented as they are, this authenticity will distinguish the good journalist from others. On the other hand, we have public relations practitioners who interact with people like journalists do, but in a completely different approach. The goal of a public relations practitioner is to present facts but not necessarily tell the truth. Unfortunately, the information is altered and people are misled into believing what suits and suits the plans of the public relations practitioner, who will naturally attempt to present the client (a person, a company, a political party) d 'a favorable way so that it be an increase in advertising and therefore to the advantage of the customer. Additionally, a public relations practitioner will do research like a journalist will, in order to gather information but that is where any similarities end. A public relations practitioner will use all positive information with emphasis on it in order to support a perfect image of the client. Any negative information will not be mentioned in the middle of a paper......in order to use reality as it is because people are not stupid. If a person understands that what they have read or listened to is false, they will not take it seriously. To conclude, I believe that in our time, there is no objectivity among journalists or public relations practitioners. Once behind these two professions which are interest, hierarchy and salary, all this is subjective. I also want to mention that journalists are “slaves” because they work with people in politics or high society who pull the strings as they please. Moreover, public relations practitioners are also subjective because their goal is to attract people in any way in order to satisfy the client. As Kousoulis said (Pénélope 2013): “In fact there is the subjective catalytic objective gaze, that the gaze of the subject” so there is no objectivity anywhere.
