Essay / High on Health Group Work Assignment - 1107
Since the formation of Group 4 (High on Health), we established that we would meet every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the library. There was a mutual agreement that I would reserve the rooms and email confirmation Monday or Tuesday evening for a room in the Martin Luther Kind Jr Library. From the first day, we met as a class and exchanged addresses e -email and numbers. We wanted to be able to communicate outside of class and not just in class. When we first met, we introduced ourselves and from there we learned a little more about each other's cultures. We all come from very different backgrounds, we talked about our culture and the status of our degrees. We also took the time to get to know each other during each meeting. In addition to training, we also focused on storming. As a group we never had conflict because we had very easy-going personalities, we wanted to get things done efficiently, so when there was conflict we normally used majority rules. In the first few meetings, we took time to discuss how we normally understand and resolve conflicts. Most of our thoughts had similarities, however, we took the time to talk through them and make sure everyone understood and was on the same page. As a group, we knew that we were individuals and that we all have different mindsets because we are at different times in our lives. However, as a group we handle conflict very well. After being trained and stormed, we turned our attention to standardization. We focused on creating a general guide and rules that we each need to follow. We did it so that there would be no conflict and if there was, there would be a solution. We wanted to have a simpler group, and one that didn't involve arguments and hard feelings...... middle of paper ......2). Communication and cohesion allow a group to remain intact and involve everyone. Previously, I was placed in a group of four, where the group was split in two because our mini-groups were not cohesive. We had a conflict and the other two people didn't want to resolve the problem or focus their attention on the more important issue: we had to prepare a meal for 15 people. I can truly say that having a cohesive group is a huge lifesaver because I can count on them to do their part correctly and effectively. If I compared High on Health and my group of cooks, I would say that the High on Health team works very well together because we all have the same mentality that if there is a problem, it has to be solved. I want to take this to my future because constantly working as a team means we will sometimes have problems, but we need to put the problems aside to work together effectively..
