  • Essay / What does technology mean for an educator like me? - 1440

Day after day, I observed that technology was increasingly recognized and used as an educational tool in classrooms. Yet, as an educator, I was certainly less comfortable with technology than the majority of my students. I used technology in my classes, but I primarily used PowerPoint. I would like to be able to seamlessly integrate more technology tools into my daily classroom. It was my main goal to take ED 508-OL, Technology as Pedagogy. This course not only affirmed my goal to seamlessly integrate more technology tools into my daily classroom, it also gave me principles, guidelines, and many practical tools to achieve this. I would completely agree with what Sharp wrote in 2009, p. 337 that because of increased access to computers, teachers were concerned about the effects of the computer on instruction. His brief overview of some of the important research on computer-assisted instruction cleared my doubts and affirmed my purpose. From my own teaching experience, I can definitely say that motivating students is one of my most important tasks. Once a teacher motivates students, half of the teaching is done. I am always here looking for ways to motivate students. I have observed that students seem to be motivated by computers, whether it is to watch something on the computer or to use the computer. Sharp said a generalization from all the research studies we can do is that the computer motivates students. This generalization motivated me to work hard in this course so that I could seamlessly integrate more technology tools into my lessons. Technology will definitely play an increasingly important role in my future classroom. This will be part of my daily lesson. Another general...... middle of paper...... technology in my daily class. I will be ready and willing to learn new technology tools in the future. As I begin to integrate more and more technology into my daily lessons, I am sure it will be more joyful and rewarding for me to see the differences I have made in my teaching using technologies.
