Essay / Media and Teen Pregnancy - 1050
Today I'm going to talk about how the authors and creators of a television commercial and a newspaper article influence us in their opinion by writing like they do it. The topic I am studying is teenage pregnancy. This topic will always come up in the media for different reasons, and every now and then you hear about a young girl who got pregnant due to unprotected sex. There will always be problems on this topic within society because many people have different opinions and views on this topic and consider it or not, good or bad. Different texts, stories, documentaries, and videos all present teenage pregnancy as wrong and irresponsible because the babies' parents are either financially struggling, socially disadvantaged, or simply too underdeveloped to carry and hold a baby. For my two texts, I compare a newspaper article from the Daily Telegraph written by Clare Masters and a video I found on YouTube from the “hey-babe” site. The video was created by the company "hey-babe" and was found and published in late 2009. The article is dated December 14, 2008. The video and the newspaper article are roughly the same as they both lead to the same conclusion. , the viewer ends up thinking about himself and others. The images and article give the point of view of each side, that of the doctor and the health journalist, and that of a teenager. In addition to having one main text, the journal article, I have two supporting texts and they both come from doctors' websites. I use them to help support my main text and assist me with additional information. Editorial writing; of the Daily Telegraph uses the strict rhetorical techniques of the Daily Telegraph because it is a newspaper article that needs to be convincing and opinion based. Rhetorical techniques are used to make a text effective and more in-depth and there are different ways to do this. This article uses a lot of evidence and examples as it provides statistics as well as a personal case and issue that affected a person's life. The article mainly talks about the risks of teenage pregnancy, it is not only harmful for the mother and father but it can also impact the mental side of a teenage girl. The risks are greater for an underage pregnant girl and it is almost guaranteed that there will be serious birth complications for the newborn and the mother..
