The feeling of allowing felons to vote is chilling; those who have been in prison have committed crimes and want to regain their rights. But it's clear that criminals should be "disenfranchised because they broke the laws," says Edward Feser, a philosophy professor and writer. Yet people still question whether it is moral to prevent felons from gaining the right to vote. Disenfranchising criminals is not intentional in racial issues and is used to punish criminals to teach them that once they break the laws they have also lost their right to vote, and this would also prevent criminals to violate the voting rights of their fellow citizens. The Washington Times, a well-known and widely read newspaper, wrote an article "Fed Judges: Criminals Should Get the Right to Vote." In this article, the authors argue that felons should have the right to vote. They had argued that the reason felons were being denied the right to vote was because disenfranchisement of felons was "intended to discriminate against minorities." On the other hand, disenfranchising criminals was never the intention of lawmakers, but there may have been a disproportionate impact on certain racial groups because there are more minorities in prison than other races .
