Essay / The debate on the death penalty - 932
The debate on the death penaltyIn today's world, terrible crimes are committed every day. Many people believe that these criminals deserve only one fate; death. The death penalty is the maximum punishment used to punish people who kill another human being and is a highly controversial method of punishment. Capital punishment is a legal application of the death penalty, and since ancient times it has been used to punish a wide variety of offenses. Criminals convicted of murder or rape should be executed because they pose a danger to society and the human race. Others still argue that one method of execution is just as brutal as the other. The common sense argument that death is the best deterrent to crime is based on the belief that people fear death more than anything else. If this is true, then threatening someone with death will have a greater effect on their behavior than any other threat. The dominant idea would be that imposing the death penalty would deter other criminals from committing acts of violence. Although the United Kingdom signed the Human Rights Convention abolishing the death penalty in 1983, other countries around the world still practice the death penalty. Abolition of the death penalty is a condition of membership in the European Union and, as an organization, vigorously opposes the death penalty worldwide. However, the abolition of the death penalty in most European Union countries has sparked much debate. The absence of capital punishment in the UK marked a civilized society, others would say. Some of the things that are happening today on our streets and in people's homes are certainly not middle of paper...permanently removed from society for the good of society. Capital punishment is used around the world and, in some countries, maintains order in today's society. Let's come together and unite people around the world to defeat crime. It certainly won't take over from us. We can no longer stand idly by and watch as criminals are released and kill again. We can no longer sit back and let our lives be terrorized. We must no longer live in fear. We must come together and set the limits on crime. We must make the world safer so that we and our children can once again live in a world without fear of being senselessly killed or losing our loved ones. Finally, man is not a divine being. He has no right to inflict lethal punishment in the name of the welfare of society, when there are suitable substitutes that require few resources..
